JOE & THE ANCHOR RELEASES POWERFUL PIANO BALLAD ‘LEAVING YOU NOW’

As Filipinos, we dedicate songs to some memories - DON’T DENY THIS! may it be a good or bad memory we have a specific song that is connected to that. One song that I have heard recently definitely pulled or might I say tugged on some major arteries and it’s title is Leaving You Now by Indie-pop band Joe and The Anchor.

It’s a piano ballad that is fitted since an emotional break-up song about experiencing first love, growing apart and realizing there is nothing left in the relationship worth fighting for.

And boy do I tell you I cried because it transported me to THAT time in my 20’s where I invested so much of my love but in the end I decided to let go.  Joakim’s powerful yet emotional voice really emitted in this song.

I am really fortunate to be able to meet the band a couple of days ago at a virtual meet and greet. I was also able to know more about their music, inspirations and a little chit chat about how life has been with them.

One of the coolest trivia we learned is that Leaving You Now has been with the band for a long time and they decided to put it in their album because they have also changed their genre from Indie-rock to Indie pop. According to the band, They really tried to capture the feeling of when your first real love turns into your first heartbreak when they were writing the song.

The single is the second one from their upcoming album ‘Coming of Age’ which explores the feelings of growing up, the fragility of life, love, and taking things for granted. Following a difficult few month when the band members had to experience the harsh reality of loss, Joe & The Anchor decided to process the events through music. During a hectic and focused period of time, the band wrote and recorded what would later develop into a full-length album, which will be released during the spring of 2022.

Honestly, just from the song Leaving You Now makes me think a lot of Filipinos would love this song. We do love very emotional songs and this relates to everyone. I’ve actually added this to a private playlist on my Apple music when I need to pull out my repressed emotions for the week - It’s my thing to do for my sanity and I highly suggest you make this part of your playlist today if you need the feels to flow through you. This song just encapsulates that moment of realisation that it’s over and it’s best to let go - If you know how I will react to this in real life - YOU KNOW how I would be.

And a little birdie told me that they will be doing a live stream of their concert with louis pax so make sure to save the date and check out their social media pages for more updates!  here are their links as well so you can stay up to date with Joe and the Anchors.
