Acupuncture: As Good as Western Medicine

Growing up I have experienced different kinds of practices to alleviate pain and also to make someone feel better.

From medicinal herbs to the traditional hilot - I've experienced it. One thing in particular that I have tried is acupuncture.

I am really thankful to meet one of the renowned practitioners of this in the Philippines - Dr. Philip Tan-Gatue to share this insights and also some myths that needs to be debunked and also why acupuncture is just as good as Western medical practice.

If you are a first timer or you are a skeptic please read on to know more.

Acupuncture is not just simply someone sticking needles in different parts of our body. Acupuncture is about proper diagnosis of the patients condition, the acupuncture points, and needle manipulation.

As a thousand old practice by the Chinese, there is so much things needed to be understood in practicing this craft. And mind you that even though its an alternative kind of medicine, it is backed up by one of the world's trusted medical organization - World health Organization.

Most people would be scared trying acupuncture simply by the needles being clean or not. Needles can be a source of diseases to be transferred so most people would actually be scared. But in today's medical practices, it is really implemented that if a needle has been used it has to be thrown away - no matter how short of a time it was use.

Next is pain factor.

Ever had your finger by a needle? Yep I know it hurts but quite honestly by my own experience, its actually not painful! There will be some sensation once the needle is punctured to the skin but its only a tiny sensation that would be gone in a couple of minutes.

Next is the horror of needles.

And if you are thinking that the acupuncturist would stick a hundred needles in your face...well that depends. Also most people would ask if there would be bleeding while the needle is in your skin, the only redness that you will see is actually the blood going around the area where the needle has been placed. And also with Dr. Philip it would take only 4 needles or less at a time - It saves you from the horror and money believe me.

From colds to cancer

Another factor that I can say is great with acupuncture is that it can be used to treat from the common cold, rheumatism to cancer.

Dr. Philip shared to us some experience that he had treated a woman with PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome to take away the pain. That is actually one thing acupuncture can do - to take the pain away and let someone live a more normal life although the conventional medical practices can do that, it can take a burden to the patient with the prescription medicine that they have to take on a daily basis.

I could personally say that trying out Acupuncture is the next best thing in medicine because it has been practiced for thousands of years by the Chinese and it is not simply sticking a needle to the skin but also looks further into the patient's condition.

If you want to know more about acupuncture, You can visit Dr. Philip's blog www.acupuncture.net.ph. Or follow him of Facebook here
